Homemade Travel Pillows

As some of you know, my DH and I are going on a backpacking trip this weekend. Now, I love to hike and camp and get outdoors, but I prefer some comfort when I am sleeping on the ground. Hence why I have a self-inflating mattress pad! But after many trips and sleepless nights, I realized that my clothes were not cutting it as a makeshift pillow. I needed a REAL pillow- one with stuffing.

After snooping around the local dollar stores, I found one that was perfect, but at a price tag of $10, I wasn't so keen on snatching it up. I then had a marvelous revelation- why don't I just make my own! And so I did.

Backside A:
I dug out my fabric box and found 2 old handkerchiefs/ scarves that I had been meaning to use for a project. The squares were precisely the size I needed them to be. I didn't even bother to pin the pieces together, just sewed up the edges! For stuffing, I cut open a VERY old bed pillow (from the guest room) that needed to be replaced anyway. I used about 1/3 of the stuffing and wala! I thought it was super cute, and as it fit easily in my backpack, it makes for a great travel pillow either in the woods or in the car. My DH was jealous of my genius, and he begged me to make one for him too. I happily obliged:

So easy, so frugal and so fun!

Great idea on using old pillows for stuffing. I am definitely stealing that one. Your new pillows are very pretty.
